A view from Professor Ian Greer, MAHSC Director:
‘From 2 October, MAHSC and GM AHSN will operate as a single, merged organisation, Health Innovation Manchester.
The launch of this academic health science system (AHSS) is an important step forward in the progress of Greater Manchester’s health and social care devolution.
Health Innovation Manchester, exploiting the synergy of our combined organisations’ expertise, will enable us to transform local citizens’ health and wellbeing by accelerating innovation.
We will bring together the city’s exceptional academic and clinical assets, industry know-how and investment, under a single umbrella, to focus wholly on the particular needs of our population.
This is critical given the scale of the health challenges, and the associated costs, facing our region over the next few years.
Both MAHSC and GM AHSN have solid track records of success in driving through health improvements.
I am convinced that together as Health Innovation Manchester, facilitated by devolution, we can make great headway with further accelerating the introduction of research and innovation into the health and care system.
This is a very exciting time with unprecedented opportunities to address local health needs, while also further developing Manchester as the ‘go to’ destination for the international life sciences industry.
Finally, thank you all for your support for MAHSC since our inception in 2009 and I hope we can rely on your continued advocacy as we transition into Health Innovation Manchester.
I look forward to working with you as the Chief Academic Officer for Health Innovation Manchester’.
