MAHSC’s Interim Chief Operating Officer and Business Development Director Dr Linda Magee travelled to Japan in February to represent Manchester on behalf of our city region’s inward investment agency, MIDAS, at the World MedTech Forum, which brought together speakers from cities across the globe that had been identified as major centres for the MedTech industry.
The event, which was organised by the Osaka Chamber of Commerce and funded by the Japanese Government, involved speeches from representatives of Melbourne, Minnesota, Singapore, Hong Kong and Manchester and provided the opportunity for these figures to meet and share their experiences and knowledge, as well as investigate opportunities for future collaboration.
Dr Magee presented the entire Manchester biotech ecosystem to delegates, both as a major UK centre for the industry and as a gateway to Europe.
MAHSC has strong relationships with several Japanese companies, including Hitachi, and the visit was also a chance for Dr Magee to meet with our existing colleagues.
Dr Magee said: “I was delighted to represent Manchester at such an illustrious occasion and proud that our city is firmly on the map as an international centre of excellence for the MedTech Industry.”
“This was a fantastic opportunity to meet representatives from across the world and also to connect with our existing colleagues in Japan.”
Dr Magee was accompanied by Marg Parton, representing Manchester’s Inward Investment Agency MIDAS, who is also the MedTech sector specialist for UKTI. The forum was held as part of the Medical Japan Expo and Conference, which for the first time brought together several individual conferences covering a wide range of fields including Regenerative Medicine, Hospital Innovation, Medical Devices, Clinical Laboratory and Diagnostics, Pharmaceuticals, Interphex and Nursing.
