Greater Manchester is recognised as an international leader in health science knowledge and expertise.

The Outstanding people theme builds on this, with a focus on recruiting and developing further highly-qualified and motivated staff to make the most of our human resources and harness the wealth of knowledge already existent in the region.

As part of this theme, we are investing £55 million across all domains and partners to recruit an extra 100 principal investigators by 2017, and continue to develop training for our 36,000-strong workforce, including through the Improvement Science for Academics course.

The University of Manchester is already one of the best research universities in the UK, with a particular strength in medicine and healthcare-related fields, but we continue to enhance our undergraduate and postgraduate courses and have joined forces with Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Salford to create the Manchester Academy for Healthcare Scientist Education.
