The primary aim of MIMIT is to drive innovation on the basis of unmet clinical need and improve patient care.
Clinicians, scientists, engineers, industry, tech transfer orgnaisations, health economists and investors are brought together in a structured way to catalyse development of innovative healthcare technologies through a rigorous scoping / validation of unmet clinical need and de-risking of investment.
MIMIT comprises a community of senior representatives throughout the clinical, academic and innovation partner communities in Manchester, using its unique Innovation Development Process to identity both clinical need and innovation exploitation potential. These ‘Site Miners’ are the catalyst for forming partnerships to address clinical problems that require an engineering solution. Technology transfer partner organisations include UMIP (University of Manchester Intellectual Property Ltd) and its NHS counterpart – TRUSTECH working together to equally recognise the NHS and University contributions to MIMIT developments.
MIMIT provides pump-priming project investment, project management expertise and links with other relevant external organisations (e.g. industry). In addition MIMIT facilitates leverage of follow-on investment. Driving innovation on the basis of unmet need, rigorous validation and early stage pump priming, to de risk technology developments, attracts investment that would not otherwise be realised.
