Women and children

Manchester aims to be a leading centre in the UK and internationally for the promotion of health and wellbeing in the early years of life

The Women and children domain capitalises on the colocation of obstetric, genetic and specialist paediatric services delivered at the Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CMFT) in partnership with the research expertise of The University of Manchester’s Institute of Human Development.

There is nowhere else in the UK that can offer a greater range of children’s services from a single campus than CMFT, including the regional neonatal and genetic services at Saint Mary’s hospital, the 26 specialist services at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital (RMCH), the paediatric emergency department, the general paediatric service for local residents, paediatric ophthalmology at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital and dental services at RMCH and the Dental Hospital.

Saint Mary’s Hospital offers outstanding maternity services taking regional referrals for the management of complex pregnancies through disease-specific services (including hypertension and diabetes), and delivering 8,500 babies each year. The hospital is also home to the Maternal and Fetal Health Research Centre, the largest pregnancy research group in Europe.
