Business & Industry
MAHSC is keen to work with industry and other external partners to achieve our vision to be a leading global centre for the delivery of innovative applied health research and education into healthcare. Goal Five of our Strategy is to “partner more widely and more beneficially with the commercial sector” while Goal Six is to “contribute significantly to innovation, enterprise and economic development in the city region and wider North West of England”.
MAHSC partners have a strong intellectual property and commercialisation capability via University of Manchester IP Company (UMIP), the University of Manchester Incubator Company (UMIC) and Trustech, the NW NHS IP Innovation Hub. UMIP was voted Technology Transfer Office of the Year at the Genesis biotechnology conference in London in December 2009. UMIC has major incubation and grow on facilities for biotechnology companies including Renovo, Epistem and DxS (now part of Qiagen).
Greater Manchester’s Comprehensive Local Research Network (GMCLRN) leads, alongside colleagues from the Cheshire & Merseyside and Lancashire & Cumbria CLRNs, the NW Industry Exemplar. This Department of Health programme aims to demonstrate that the UK can demonstrate comparable or better performance in industry clinical trials than leading European countries.
MIMIT™ is a unique programme within the UK for the development of innovation medical technology that is clinically led. It is partnered with the highly successful CIMIT® programme in Boston, US.
MAHSC partners also have a highly networked group of R&D offices currently working to complete harmonisation of procedures and protocols under the MAHSC framework.
MAHSC works closely with the regional biomedical cluster group, Bionow (Northwest Development Agency).
