The Manchester Academic Health Science Centre (Manchester AHSC) is a partnership between The University of Manchester, Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Manchester Mental Health and Social Care Trust, NHS Salford (Salford Primary Care Trust), Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust, The Christie NHS Foundation Trust and University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust. Our strategy is to produce a healthcare system driven by world class research and innovation, with quality at its core, and underpinned by excellence in research and education. Manchester AHSC is based on a federal model and is the first AHSC in the UK to cover the full spectrum of care:
- acute
- specialist
- mental health
- primary care and
- commissioning
Manchester AHSC was formally established in July 2008 to underpin the development of Greater Manchester as a world leader in health research. A federation, which interconnects Manchester’s existing research activity and research partnerships, offers huge potential and opportunities and will generate health benefits, economic development, enterprise, innovation and wealth creation in Greater Manchester and the wider North West.
